Established in 1996, ORBIT is a key member of the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), holding licenses from the Capital Markets & Securities Authority (CMSA) and the Bank of Tanzania [BOT].

With over a decade of market dominance, ORBIT offers services such as Stock Broker/Dealing, Primary Dealing in Government Securities, Sponsoring Broker for DSE listings, and Advisory and Corporate Finance Services.

Godfrey holds an ADR Licence under Capital Markets and Securities.

Answers To Commonly Asked Questions

Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions section, where we address common inquiries about our stock brokerage services.

A Stock Exchange is a market where investors buy and sell listed securities (shares, bonds, etc.). It differs from an IPO, where securities are bought directly from the issuing company.

A DSE Licensed Broker or Dealing Member is a company licensed by CMSA to trade securities on the DSE. Investors must place orders through a broker to buy or sell shares/bonds.

A share is a unit of ownership in a company. Shareholders or stockholders collectively own the shares.

Open an account with a broker by providing personal details and completing the CDS Depository Account Application Form. Required documents include identification, address, and bank details. For companies and partnerships, additional documents like incorporation certificates and financial statements are needed.

Contact your broker or NMB (agent) to place an order. You can place a market order (at market price) or a limit order (at a set price).

A Brokerage Agent (e.g., NMB) acts on behalf of a licensed broker. NMB does not hold a brokerage license but acts as an agent.

Contact Orbit or NMB staff to fill and submit a cancellation form.

Submit a police loss report and client identification to the branch staff, who will forward it to the custody unit at the head office.

Provide your full name, ID number, telephone, or address to branch staff, who will search for the CDS account number while you wait.

Fill an amendment form, submit a copy of ID, and pay TZS 5,000 for address changes.

Submit identification to establish the relationship, an official letter of intent, and fill the transfer form. A fee of TZS 5,000 per CDS applies.

Provide a death certificate, family minutes, probate and administration documents, identification of the administrator and inheritors, and an inventory stamped by the High Court.

Fill in mortgage forms, submit ID, and pay a fee of TZS 20,000.

The market is pre-funded, so you must pay at the time of placing your order.

Anyone with surplus funds, regardless of income level, can invest. Do not invest money needed for immediate living expenses.

Brokers act on behalf of investors, offering advice and handling transactions.

Brokers charge a 2.4% commission on each transaction, as fixed by the DSE.

A dividend is a proportionate distribution of a company's earnings to its shareholders.

You must own the stock before the ex-dividend date to receive the dividend.

Share values can fluctuate based on company performance and economic conditions.

Trading sessions are from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM on business days, subject to change by the Exchange.

Choose a broker, place an order, and the broker completes the trade when a suitable price is agreed upon with another broker.

Authorized shares are the total number allowed to sell. Issued shares are those given to shareholders. Outstanding shares are currently held by shareholders.

Par value is a random value in the corporate charter. Stated value is determined by the board. Market value is the current exchange value.
